Recital Tid Bits

Just a couple things to help you understand a Dance Recital…

-  JDA Recitals are full productions put on as a showcase of Dancer’s work over our 8 month season, as well as for our audiences’ entertainment.

-  The show is approximately 2 hours long and is a full Theatre event including a professional Emcee, lighting and sound, all levels and ages of students from 1 to adult.

Competitive and Recreational dancers work together in true family and professional fashion to entertain with all genres of Dance including tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre, lyrical, hip hop, contemporary and acrobatics.

-  We move FAST!  Our goal is to give every dancer their moment to shine on stage and revel in the accolades of their hard work, all while the audience is privy to a smooth show and none of the quick changes and wonderful chaos backstage.  I feel bad sometimes the audience never gets to share in the Party going on behind the curtain!!

 -    This is where our dance family truly shines.  Parents and Dancers taking care of each other.  The helping is intoxicating and never are you alone.  There is ALWAYS someone there, who is as new as you or has been there for what seems like forever, willing to help.

Now for the nitty gritty...

1.       Recital is TBA

2.       1pm and 6:30pm.

3.       Location is Stettler Performing Arts Centre

Seats will sell out quite quickly and with there being no standing room allowed in the PAC, please make sure you purchase tickets for everyone you wish to see recital.  Only unsold seats are sold at the door.  By not having a ticket you run the risk of not having your entire party gain entry to the theatre.

4.       Dress rehearsal

TBA

Start time 4pm sharp

Finish 7:30pm

*Friday showcase performers can practice on stage from 7:30-9pm or before Fridays showcase at 5:00-5:30pm*

Plan to stay for the entirety.

Bring things for your dancers to do.

Dancers under the age of 11 must have an adult/older teen to accompany them.

No running around the theatre or playing movement games allowed.

Required:

Costumes

Shoes

Hair

*rec classes will have all costume items by then 👍

Make up is optional but a great time to practice.

*we will be working thru the program in order to allow everyone to know how it will all work show day as well as amount of time each dancer has to change costumes, what dressing rooms are like day of recital, etc.

It is a mock recital to be sure Saturday's shows run smoothly.

Only deviation from the program will be that the finale will go first rather than last.

When your dancer has then done their dance(s) you are free to leave or stay and watch the other dancers.

On Saturday the finale will be the final dance on the program.

The program order will be posted in each dressing room along with dressing room assignments.

Parents (and kids) will be able to sit in the front and watch any and all of the numbers during dress rehearsal.

But will also get to dry run how changing their dancer, leaving them with their helpers and run out to the front to watch and then pop back to grab their dancer will work on recital day :)

Dancers will practice changing immediately for their dance(s), can pop out to watch and make sure they are ready backstage for their number 2 dances before they go on stage.

There are no "times" when each group dances. This is a collective production of JDA dancers.

Saturday's shows will run anywhere from 2-2.5 hours each.

By doing a dry run we will also have a better idea of the real time length.

5.  Solo and duet show with Acro demonstrations and adult class performances will be in a separate showcase. May 3 at 7pm.

10.   Questions.

If you have any question during this process please ask!!

Ask Me, ask the other teachers, or Rebecca Scott, ask your fellow dance moms.

Do not find yourself lost or frustrated.

The kids have worked all season for this day and it is the most fulfilling if Mom or Dad is enjoying it too!

It is hard to revel in your dancer’s proud moments if you are feeling frustrated and confused.

Always ask.

Ask to clarify, ask to understand, ask for help.

We are a dance family and family takes care of each other and celebrates successes!

Watch for the Schedules at the studio!
