Shiatsu

Shiatsu Massage is an alternative technique that involves manual pressure applied to specific points on the body in an attempt to relieve tension and pain. According to the Japanese healing treatment, Shiatsu (meaning finger pressure) massage uses thumbs, fingers, elbows, and knees to concentrate pressure at certain energy, pathways in the body called meridians. The massage also known as acupressure works to reduce muscle tension and fatigue and is thought to improve blood circulation in the body as well as improve function of the lymphatic system.

These sessions of gentle massage, acupressure and manual stretching are done completely clothed and can be a wonderful path to relieve stress and help ease chronic pain.

Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient therapy that focuses on healing in the body by activating different reflex points found in the hands and feet. Pressing on the different points in the hands and feet causes reflex responses in corresponding parts of the body, which can help promote healing.

Reflexology is based on the idea that the glands, organs, and parts of the body are reflected in specific reflex areas on the feet, sometimes the hands and ears. Applying pressure to these specific points can reduce pain and anxiety and promote circulation, relaxation, and healing in the body.  It also is effective at improving nerve and blood supply throughout the body by facilitating the functioning of the nervous and circulatory system.

Reflexology also helps the body to normalize by promoting balance and a state of harmony between the body, mind and emotions. Due to the nature of a hands on treatment, and gentle muscle manipulation, reflexology can be useful in easing fascial and muscle related discomfort and issues.
